To test my theory that this motherboard is very likely dependent on the PSU used, I swapped and used the Corsair CX430, which would boot the BIOS fine but not load Windows 7 at all (the loading Windows logo would animate, but then the screen would go blank and no video signal). It was with the TR2 PSU that I finally have a working system now! This occurred with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 installation attempts.īy the time I received the 3rd motherboard, I also obtained the Thermaltake TR2 500W PSU and decided to give that a try instead of the Corsair CX430 that I had been using with the first two. The first two that was RMA'ed would reboot randomly during installation of Windows.

Overall Review: One of the things I noticed between the first two and the final motherboard that was RMA'ed was that during the installation wizard of Windows 7 SP1 Pro 64-bit, it would not recognize the USB 3.0 ports. If I had known the troubles I would come across, then I would not buy this motherboard at all! Once working, it's a decent motherboard with nice features but getting it to finally work was a nightmare (see Other Thoughts for more information).Ĭons: I have never had to RMA anything with Newegg until coming across this motherboard 3 times! Apparently, there are major compatibility issues with what power supply unit is used with it (see Other Thoughts section). In Windows 7, the overall Windows Experience Index scores at 4.2 for its lowest sub-score with Graphics (Desktop performance for Windows Aero).

Pros: After going through 3 RMAs through Newegg, finally received a motherboard that works but with a catch that might be related to what power supply is used with it. I haven't done any power draw testing but it is likely that my rig uses more power now than if C6 was enabled.Ĩ GB (8 GB x 1) GSkill Ripjaws X DDR3 12800 So in the bios, I disabled C6 state and now it works perfectly. After some reading I discovered it was most likely due to the lower power states that the board tells the processor to enter. You might run into problems with more powerful GPUs, but at that point why are you buying a sub-$50 mobo?Ĭons: I was getting constant, spontaneous reboots like many other users. Overall a great, speedy board - perfect for an HTPC.Īlso, to accommodate the array of ports on the board, the PCIe 16x slot runs at only 4x, but this is more than enough bandwidth for my low-end GPU.

Installation is relatively simple, though the manual leaves a bit to be desired (I have only one stick of RAM, it did not say which slot to insert a single stick). Having 4 SATA ports is great, as is USB 3.0 headers for my case. Pros: So I bought this little guy for a HTPC I'm setting up (specs below).
